Prof. Gopinathan Sankar obtained a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, under the supervision of Professor C.N.R. Rao. Subsequently, as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the Royal Institution of GB, he worked under the supervision of Professor Sir John Meurig Thomas FRS. He continued to work at the Royal Institution of GB, first as a Reader and subsequently was made a Professor at the Royal Institution of GB in 2004. Since 2007, he moved to the University College London as Professor of Solid State Chemistry. He held a Royal Society Industry Fellowship and worked closely with Johnson Matthey Technology Centre, Sonning Common, for four years between 2007 and 2011.
