iGEM Team Wins Silver Medal at iGem 2025

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur proudly announces that its iGEM Team has secured a Silver Medal

Overview:

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur proudly announces that its iGEM Team has secured a Silver Medal at the prestigious International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition 2025. The global event witnessed participation from over 400 teams across more than 45 countries, celebrating innovation, collaboration, and excellence in synthetic biology.

The IISER Berhampur team’s project, titled POSEIDON, focused on developing a synthetic biology-based bioremediation system for the efficient and sustainable removal of toxic metals from contaminated water. The project aimed to present an affordable and eco-friendly solution to one of the world’s most critical environmental challenges.

The team expressed its deep gratitude to the Director of IISER Berhampur for his trust, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout their journey. His belief in their potential played a pivotal role in transforming their vision into reality.

The team also acknowledged the exceptional mentorship of their Principal Investigators,
Dr. Prosenjit Mondal and Dr. Parikshit Moitra, whose guidance and scientific insights shaped the project from conception to completion. They further extended heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ruthrotha Selvi Bharathavikru for her constructive feedback, motivation, and consistent support.

A special note of appreciation was conveyed to Dr. Vinay Bulusu for his dedicated mentorship during the wet lab phase, which was instrumental in the successful execution of the experimental work. The team also thanked all faculty members for their invaluable inputs, critical discussions, and encouragement that fostered an environment of academic rigor and creativity.

The team extended their appreciation to the Finance and Accounts Section, the Security and Transport Departments, and all administrative offices, including the Director’s Office, Registrar, Deputy Registrar, and Academic and Student Affairs Office, for their continued cooperation and logistical support that ensured the team’s smooth participation in the global event.
