In a recently accepted research on the mating behaviour of Parthenium beetles, Dr. Bodhisatta Nandy and his PhD student Rabi Sankar Pal showed that the species shows a unique mating behaviour. They discovered that a single extraordinarily long mating that often last for more than 6 hrs, is a series of short copulations and copulatory courtship that seems to have evolved to benefit the males sire more offspring. The work is now accepted in the leading journal of the field - Ethology.
